Self guided goose hunts require the do it yourself goose hunter to scout. Scouting will always be required regardless of how good our recommendation may be where to hunt. Understanding this requirement is often agreed to that even though geese may repetitively use the same feeding field for a stretch of days they may not be there the next day for the rest of the season. And, we have seen sufficient variety to their feeding patterns to know they do not always conform to accepted norms. The picture below is a prime example of how a goose hunt may be made or broken.
A large flock of Canada Geese pictured during the regular season at the peak of the migration. The unusual aspect is they are feeding on a native crass field. This is something not too frequently seen and contrary to the 8,000+ acres of crop fields we lease exclusively for regular and late season goose hunts. What we do is provide recommendations on the region to scout. Provide crop field locations and water details on our land lease maps. The rest is up to the do it yourself goose hunter to make his own self guided goose hunt. The value of this native grass flock feeding picture is to provide one more piece to the puzzle of where to goose hunt.

"...After the hunt we stayed to call and watch for the fun of it. One of the pictures from the hunt..."

"...We started to do well and this picture is right before my partner finished with his last Canada...it was just as they set their wings to come in...we set up about 150 yards apart with 400 deks between us..."

Late Season Goose Hunting, every year we have very few goose hunters take advantage of the season after the duck season closed. Several of our managed wetlands hold Canadas most years, but the overcast days we all look for to hunt snows and blues are sometimes few and far between. Hauling gear and decoys requires a lot of work, but it pays off for those willing to put in the effort. Season highlights from one good group of waterfowl hunters.Al Bob Dave and Frank

Thanks Frank, Bob, Dave and Al for some great hunt pictures. We see you all put in the time and you get the most results. |
