Lake 29 A view of the Lake from the North facing the south. The lake covers 20+ surface water acres and the average depth is 2 to 15 feet deep. The shore line is long and flat so the majority of the edge is chest wadeable. The fields surrounding the lake are a combination of corn, green wheat and beans which are rotated yearly. Access to the lake is easy, but the lake stretches for close to 1/2 mile. If the fields are muddy accessing the south end of the lake can be difficult. ATV's are allowed to haul decoys and gear to "hunt on your own" waterfowl properties unless the fields are saturated with water. As a crow flies this lake is 6 1/2 miles from the Four Rivers Wildlife Area. At certain times of the year snow geese use this as a roosting lake and the landowner encourages members to harvest the geese. Canada geese, mallards and a variety of other ducks use this lake on their way to and from the Four Rivers Wildlife Area. Since the lake is large, being flexible to wind direction makes it desirable for the hunter to be able to move with portable blinds and layout boats. If the hunting is slow the lake is stocked with bass, crappie and channel cats. Dove and quail hunting is also allowed on this property.
Deep water on several watershed and irrigation lakes remains open allowing later in the winter goose hunting to include many years after the regular waterfowl season.
Always a bonus to find a band. |
