Vernon County, Missouri
Wetlands waterfowl hunting on the Four Rivers Region Nearest town: Nevada Total acreage, 1800 Open water, 48 total irrigation lake acres spread between a 30, 10 and 8 acre lake Crop stubble acreage, 1752
2 blinds planned, currently a do-it-on-your-own hot spot A winter wheat field (right) near near water is a bonus that attracts good goose hunting. These fields produce as good later in the season as crop stubble does before picket through by the large flocks.
Most fields accommodate large 400 decoy spreads. Frequently club members team up the night before and place spreads, camp on the grounds and are ready to hunt early the next morning. Snow goose hunters can easily place spreads in excess of 500. On all of our wetlands both duck and goose hunting is available.
The four of us who hunt together have killed 497 birds as of last Sunday. I killed the 11 birds in the pic at a MAHA pond in [location deleted] on Sunday morning. Not bad for the last week of season. 4 mallards, 2 ringnecks, 2 snows and 3 Canadas. |
