This is pictured on the northwest sub-basin in Missouri with the corn half way to harvest.
This photo was taken on a piece of Association land in Holt County within a couple miles of the Squaw Creek Wildlife Area on the Missouri River bottoms.
This relief map is of the very northwest corner of Missouri with the flat river valley shown in the picture above. A huge area with plenty of water and the Missouri river flowing through it having come down from Canada though Montana, Dakotas, Nebraska and bringing the migration with it each fall. The field above after harvest provides the goose attracting stubble and large area feed this area is well known for.
Best example we have of our snow goose habitat. Nothing more than a crop stubble field a couple of miles off the refuge and farther from the major rivers. The flight pattern is easily interdicted as they frequently fly the same area for several days at a time. With some scouting and setting up a large decoy spread with just enough calling to get their attention is all that is required on the days when it works right. Other days it seem like all geese just fly by without any care but to move fast. When it comes to Canada's most are harvested off our wetlands incidental to a duck hunt.
