Goose Hunts
Missouri Waterfowl
| Crop Fields & WetlandsWe offer goose hunting in Kansas Iowa and Missouri however it is our Missouri region that will most attract the waterfowl hunter. Hunts are on thousands of private land crop stubble acres and on managed wetlands developed by MAHA on the three major watersheds that compose the Lower Missouri River Basin on the Mississippi Flyway. Our Kansas waterfowl hunts come in second with Iowa having nothing that is comparable.
Typical goose hunts are on crop fields near farm ponds and watershed lakes between the public land refuges and the river flyways. All hunts on all crop fields are from hunter supplied blinds. If on the MAHA built wetlands 34 permanent blinds both chest wader and dry land walk up are available. ChoiceFor those wanting a do it yourself hunt it is no longer an issue of finding a single place to hunt it is now selecting from thousands of available acres of where to hunt. A significant improvement from having one or a few places to having a selection of large areas that each has thousands of acres of crop stubble on a variety of wetlands. This provides flexibility at moving to where the geese are rather than depending (hoping) the geese will flyby that day. All goose hunts are by hunters supplying their own decoys, dogs, equipment and skill. A true self guided goose hunt opportunity. We will get that hunter to the point of where to park his truck, step out and hunt. From that point on the hunter takes care of the rest.
AnytimeThe Association supplies the land and the hunter hunts on his own through a reservation system that prevents competition. No hunter is ever denied the chance to hunt as often as he wants, on his schedule and for the entire season compliant with all state and federal regulations. This is as true for our goose hunts as for duck, deer, turkey and upland. LocationNot all wetlands or crop stubble attract waterfowl. MAHA has been in the waterfowl business on the three watersheds that comprise the Lower Missouri River basins since 1965. Our wetlands and fields are placed along the major waterways where they combined into refuges and conservations areas making for vast areas of large standing water structures both manmade and natural with the surrounding areas of waterfowl attracting crop fields of both stubble and winter wheat. Selecting the right goose hunting location within this available habitat makes all the difference between seeing flights of waterfowl or blue sky. River Basin Hunts - Mississippi Flyway
The lower Missouri River Sub-basins cover just about the entire western half of Missouri and in the watersheds lie great areas of natural and manmade water structures surrounded by farming. This accounts for our great waterfowl migration and layover. The three major sub-basins of the larger Lower Missouri River Basin are labeled on this map and is the region in which we have our best waterfowl hunts. Early & Late SeasonHistorically, our peak migration and best hunts are from mid November to mid December and continues later for Canadas and still later for Snows. The return migration is as good as the southern migration on many years and the time the field hunters are most active. Our self guided hunter approach allows all to hunt the portion of the migration most preferred and to hunt as often as wanted.
