Flying in to goose hunt is frequently done and is possible with rag spreads such as for Snow Goose hunting. While many goose hunters prefer large decoy spreads many also use few and rely on calling to bring them in. Winter Goose HuntingWinter goose hunting while cold is productive. With snow cover hunting large crop stubble fields, plenty in corn, will attract geese from a distance. During periods without snow a lush green winter wheat fields of three inches or more will have the same attracting effect on the geese.
Goose spreads may be placed out the day before or the morning of the hunt. They may be left on the same field for consecutive days of hunting in coordination with our reservation system. This allows the goose hunter, especially those with dogs, to hunt geese in the morning then upland hunt the rest of the day. Or reverse it hunt upland in the area of the spread and when spotting geese flying through go back and call them in. The value to this approach to hunting is just because the hunter has a limit of geese he does not need to stop hunting. Make the most of every day a field and really have a hunt full of memories and dog work. |
