Blind 5 faces the west and has its back to Parsons Creek. The shooting pool covers 30 surface acres of water and the average depth is 24 to 36 inches. Access to the blind is difficult, especially when the dirt road leading to the marsh is wet. The water level is controlled with two, 12 inch drop log structures. One of the drop log pipes was designed to take in water, while the other was designed to drain water. By draining the water every other year we are able to keep the oak trees along the levee alive, which is primary feed for the mallards in the winter, especially when the wind in out of the east.
Always good to see watch ducks through the year and not just during the season. |
