Blind 3 faces the north with water in a 360 degree radius of the blind bordering Parsons Creek in northwest Missouri. The shooting pool covers over 10 surface acres of shallow water habitat for a variety of small ducks and mallards on their way to and from the Fountain Grove Wildlife Area. The water is drained during the month of June each year to either plant millet or grow a voluntary stand of smartweed for the ducks to feed on during the fall and winter. Blind 3 is in a good location to hunt with a south wind. It is primarily a duck marsh, but the opportunity for an occasional Canada goose is there.
This photo shows the levee that hold the water for blind 3. The water source is a holding lake north of blind 3 that is moved through a drop log pipe structure. The levee in the photo also has a drop log pipe structure which enables us to drain the shooting pool to provide feed for the ducks. |
