| Hunter's ChoiceSelf guided Missouri duck hunting on private wetlands where do it yourself hunters may duck hunt and on their schedule through the entire Missouri season. To hunt the hunter makes a telephone reservation, leaves from home and drives to a duck blind or wade-in area on a wetlands lease, farm pond or watershed lake.
A common concern with first year members is that they will be closed out from the best wetlands or blinds by other senior members. That is prevented by our reservation system that limits all to a maximum of three open reservations on the books at anyone time. Once three days are reserved one day must be consumed before another reservation is made. This system leaves open blinds and wetlands for others to fill. The advantage older members do have is they have a better knowledge of the wetlands layout. New members will be encouraged to preseason scout to equalize this imbalance. This reservations system maybe modified during the occasional drought year that exceeds even the capability of our pumps and reservoir lakes. During these years (two in the last 12) when some blinds may go dry the reservation system is further limited to a maximum of two duck hunting days at a time. The entire goal is to ensure everyone has equal access to their preferred wetlands. As all hunters receive the same map issue and operate within the same reservation system. All hunters have equal opportunity for their first choice of blinds and wetlands. Add to this we will never allocate more memberships than we have space for. The point is that all may be duck hunting on their schedule throughout the entire season means that no one is ever denied a chance to hunt. The confidence the hunter has in his ability to hunt on his schedule is that we realize what it takes to have a good hunt and that brings hunters back to renew their membership in the Association.
BlindsWe build and post our own duck blinds supported by 4x4 posts set three feed into the soil, use 2x6 framing and ¾ plywood decking. Five hunters will fit in a blind, four more comfortably. The duck blinds are camouflaged with rippy grass we grow as an agricultural product. They have a bench to sit on along their rear length and allow for sitting or standing shooting. We also have some wetlands that have variable water levels during the season that have floating duck blinds well anchored to provide as stable a shooting platform as possible. Wade-in AreasOur wade-in areas are on the same wetlands posted with blinds and are well suited for the dog hunter wishing to work his retriever from land. They typically have a long expanse of shallow water allowing for plenty of vegetation and a deep pool center. All wade-in areas are do it yourself duck hunts in terms of selecting a spot to hunt from and camouflaging. The area surrounding the shooting pool will be 100% natural. Have a look at a wade-in area Layout Boat AreasOur wade-in and layout boat wetlands are similar with the exception the layout boat areas will require a boat to fully access the better spots. Boat access is for any easily man portable boat. No trailer access is available on any wetlands and large boats are overkill for our wetlands. That overkill is quickly evident on the first hunt. While all are posted well before first light, the public wetlands mentality of rushing to get a spot, sky busting and stealing flights is absent. One of our many intangible benefits is that our hunters’ age structure is in the high 40’s average. This more seasoned hunter desires above all else a good hunt where enjoyment of the day and the ducks are supreme. Filled bags always bring a smile, it is however the quality of our hunts that brings the hunters back. Another view of our wade-in and layout boat areas All About Good HuntsAnd, this is what it is all about - quality Missouri duck hunting for the do it yourself hunter. We take away the public wetlands hunter mentality allowing all the leisure to make the duck hunt they prefer.
